CHILO TENTED CAMP AT MAHOVE:
Boasting one of the best locations within Gonarezhou National Park, Chilo Gorge Tented Camp offers guests the opportunity of experiencing this pristine wilderness area at close quarters. The camp is an authentic ‘old Africa’ style camping experience and overlooks the Runde river, whose floodplains are frequented by wildlife in both numbers and variety. Mahove campsite provides easy access to many of the most game rich parts of northern Gonarezhou, including Machaniwa and Tembwahata water pans, and an excellent base from which to conduct game walks.
Four twin bedded canvas tents each feature an en-suite bathroom with toiletries, hot and cold running water, shower, single basin sink, and flushing loo. Tents also feature a hanging cupboard and luggage rack, mirror and storage area, private veranda and seating area, and is solar powered.
Chilo Gorge Tented Camp is open from 1st May to 31st October.
CHILO GORGE SAFARI LODGE:
Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge is located in a stunning place perched high above the Save River overlooking Gonarezhou National Park. The Lodge provides a truly breathtaking and unique experience, with 10 luxury rooms.
Each room is light and specious, simple and elegant, yet with all the comforts of home. A handsome palette of natural materials has been used, to provide a haven from the heat of the day, a place to rest and recoup, and to prepare for one's next adventure, When looking to spend time with other guests, the main lodge has everything one needs, a shaded swimming pool, a sumptuous lounge, a library, a bar and dining room, all surrounded by beautifully tended gardens. Even here, at the heart of Chilo, the great African wilderness is never far away. You can watch the local elephants, hippos and crocodiles cooling off in the waters of the river from the viewing deck.
One is guaranteed a lovely stay with amazing food prepared with great care by the chefs. The guides at Chilo will ensure that Game drives are interactive and educational. Gonarezhou offers unique game sightings that will surely be memorable.
At over 5,000 km², it is the second largest National Park in Zimbabwe, cutting a swathe of sandstone cliffs, scrub, and baobab trees along the country’s south-eastern border with Mozambique. Largely undiscovered by the outside world, this striking land is one of the last great pristine wildernesses in Africa and takes in a huge diversity of habitats.
Lions, cheetah, wild dogs, hyena, buffalo, hippo, and giraffe can all be seen within the boundaries of Gonarezhou, but this country is known, first and foremost, as the Land of the Elephant. These massive, intelligent creatures are called nzou in Shona, and give their name to the national park where they number in their thousands.
CHILO TENTED CAMP AT MAHOVE:
Overlooking the floodplains of the Runde River, Mahove campsite provides a stunning location for Chilo Gorge Tented Camp. It provides a wonderful location from which to do game walks and is located close by to a number of the best water pans in Gonarezhou. Elephant, buffalo, eland, waterbuck and other plains game often graze just below the campsite, and there is wonderful bird viewing to enjoy throughout the day.

CHIVILILA FALLS
For those with a penchant for something a bit more active, the 3km walking trail from the lodge to the beautiful Chivilila Falls is a great way to start or end your day. Trekking through a rugged landscape will lead you to a viewpoint overlooking the falls. As the water cascades over age-old rocks, take in the sights and satisfy your thirst with some well deserved refreshments.
BIRDWATCHING
The three major rivers, the Chilojo cliffs and the vast water pans in the park support a rich variety of birdlife, including kingfishers, hornbills, eagles, and raptors. Over 400 bird species have been recorded here, making Gonarezhou one of Southern Africa's top birding destinations.
