The Laikipia Plateau is a remote and beautiful region in North Kenya, located on the equator in Laikipia County, one of the 47 Counties of Kenya. Stretching from the foot of Mount Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley, about an hour by light aircraft from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport.
The dramatic landscape of this pristine wilderness encompasses open grassy plains, high altitude plateaus, acacia bushland, forested valleys, and kopjes.
What makes the region unique, is that the guardianship of the wilderness is based on the Kenyan conservancy model. The transition from intensive livestock farming to wildlife haven is a testament to the success of this progressive conservation model.
