South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Nsefu is the first safari camp in Zambia and therefore completely unique and steeped in history. Being first also has its benefits as there is no doubt about it; the camp really is in the best location in the South Luangwa.
The camp is one of only two properties (the other being Tena Tena) in the Nsefu sector and does allow for a completely different level to your safari experience and one which is not only peaceful but packed full of activity and game to see. At the beginning of the season we are spoilt with the Yellow Billed Stork colony followed by the drier months when the game concentrations really are second to none.

Nsefu Camp offers charm, history, exclusivity and comfort. The six original rondavels have been upgraded to include spacious en-suite bathrooms however we have tried very hard to keep the feel and fittings in the room in line with the original “old fashioned” feel. Nothing can sum it up better than a guest’s comment of “understated elegance”. Each room has a clear view of the river whether it be from the comfort of your bed or the chairs out on the verandah.
From the dining room lunch can be enjoyed whilst watching large herds of elephants making their daily river crossing just upstream from camp. The bar and sitting area sit snugly between a large termite mound and lagoon, unobtrusive and cozy but making the most of the extensive wildlife that comes down to the lagoon to drink – lion and leopard can also be heard lapping away at the refreshing water in the evenings. What could be better than sitting in a comfy armchair enjoying a delicious slice of cake whilst watching anything from Antelope to Zebra coming down to drink.
Our unmatched guide to guest ratio of 1:4 allowing even more flexibility and choice between game drives and walking safaris makes your safari experience even more memorable. Day and night game drives are offered in open 4x4 vehicles. Walking safaris are led by our knowledgeable guides, and escorted by an armed National Park scout. A visit to Kawaza Village and the schools is often remembered years later by our guests as the most rewarding part of their visit to Africa. This gives a more holistic experience of the Luangwa Valley. Alternatively take a stroll within the community around the Mfuwe area which is bustling – small “dukas” (shops), the market, bars, and people offering various skills. For unique locally produced hand-painted textiles, drawing inspiration from the stunning Zambian wildlife and surroundings; a perfect place to buy a souvenir or two of your Zambian experience.
